CITY OF WESLACO SHOULD BE ASHAMED- EXPLOITING SENIORS

As an 82 year old widow, who lost her husband to mesothelioma cancer as a result of asbestos exposure, and being on a fixed income, I was aghast that the City of Weslaco, where I no longer live, was trying to get fifty (50) dollars from me for services NOT provided by the EMS.

In June 2007, as I recall, someone called the EMS to our house, but my husband did not need ambulance service or any treatment, and the EMS people were told their services were not needed.

Well, after I moved 10 hours away, after my husband had been dead several months,
I got a billing from the EMS department of the City of Weslaco, for the fifty dollars (Medicare had paid ten dollars, and the original bill was for sixty (60) dollars.

It then got turned over to a collection agency, Ram-Val,Inc that contacted me, trying to extort the money I don't owe. If you search on the Texas Comptroller's corporation franchise site, you will find that, as of October 1, 2008, they are NOT in Good Standing with the state of Texas, which to me, means that the City of Weslaco has contracted with a company that is not obeying all the rules and regulations of the State of Texas. The bill I got when I requested validation of the debt, showed they were charging for "NO TRANSPORT/TREATMENT" and not only that, but they were billing me for the EMS people apparently using two pair of nitrile gloves and charging me ten (10) dollars for the four gloves (two pair). You can get a whole BOX of nitrile gloves (100 or 200 of them I think) for five (5) dollars and twelve (cents). They can buy almost a whole box for HALF of what they were billing me for four gloves!

If you think it is wrong, why not write the City Manager of Weslaco, Anthony Covasevich
at " acovacevich@weslacotx.gov " or the head of their finance department ,
jhiebert@weslacotx.gov, aka
James Hiebert, CPA, Finance Director, and let them know how you feel about Weslaco taking advantage of seniors and widows.
